Class 5

Welcome to Class 5!

Our class is named after the chemist Rosalind Franklin, famous for helping to discover DNA. I look forward to finding out what makes up our class' DNA!

Get ready to explore new and exciting topics this year and to deepen your learning! This year children will be investigating some key topic questions:

The Universe! (Term 1 and 2)

Is Earth the most significant planet?

Building Britain (Term 3 and 4)

What is Big History?

Who's in charge here?

Brazil and Rivers (Term 5 and 6)

Is Brazil always a Carnaval?

Is Earth the most significant planet?

How do Rivers effect the world we live in?

Mrs Bunting will be supporting our learning Monday to Thursday. Mrs Haffenden will continue to cover the class on a Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Wickham on Wednesday afternoon.

Homework will be set on a Wednesday and will outline tasks to be completed by the following Wednesday. I expect all children to complete their homework to the best of their ability, however; if there is a problem with the homework, please make a note in the contact book so I can address it. Homework will consist of a spelling investigation or task related to a spelling pattern, rule or phonic focus from the week; a grammar or punctuation activity (related to the learning that week or revision); 30 minutes (minimum) reading with a commentary written in their reading journal (this is a piece that will show their response to their reading but can be in a format they choose), maths activities (usually on Mathletics). Topic homework will be more project based and will not occur on a weekly basis.

I cannot stress enough how important it is that the children read regularly, it can boost their learning skills immensely. I would also recommend that most children practise their times tables every day until they know them inside and out and know the division facts that relate to these.

Here's to a fantastic year in Class 5!

Thank you for supporting your child's learning,

Miss Morris
