Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to our final two terms of the year. I hope that you all had a chocolate filled and enjoyable Easter in the sunshine! This is just a letter to provide you with some information about the upcoming term.
Our topic this term is a continuation of our ‘Adventurers and Explorers’ topic. As part of this we will be learning about slightly more unusual explorers such as pirates as explorers and space adventurers! We will be looking at a range of picture and non-fiction books to help us to find out more and will be kick starting the term with some poetry to tie in with this theme. Alongside this we will be map reading and using our creative flair in a range of artistic projects…watch this space! In Science we will be continuing with our own exploring of plants and will be investigating for ourselves the conditions needed for plants to grow successfully. In Maths we will be continuing with 50 club alongside a focus on telling the time and reasoning based problem solving.
PE this term will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. Please can you ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school for these days as we aim for lovely weather and lots of opportunities for sports on the field. Homework will continue to be set on Mondays and the Home Contact book will continue to be used as a main method of communication… however, as always, our door is always open! Alongside this, from this week we will be launching our Class 2 Sponsored Spell! This comprises of a set of 60 words that we are challenging the children to learn by Wednesday 10th of May when the sponsored spell will take place in class as part of our literacy lesson. As a class we are going to be raising the money for our school library so please encourage your children to take an active role in our fundraising! Please note that to give your children a head start with this there will be no other additional homework this week.
Please be aware that we will be going on a school trip in Term 6 to link in with our topic ‘Knights vs. Dragons’. More details to follow surrounding this. You may also be aware that this term is the term within which year 2 will be sitting their SATs. Please be reassured that this is a very relaxed process for our children – many do not even realise that they are sitting SATs as we call them ‘Class Challenges’. These will be taking place within the week of the 15th of May.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Miss Hebditch, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Smith and Mrs Harrington
